Spielberger-Hanin Anxiety Inventory

The Spielberger-Hanin test is a psychological tool for measuring anxiety levels. It is based on the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), developed by Charles Spielberger. This test was adapted by Russian psychologist Yuri L. Hanin, who refined some of its elements. The test assesses two types of anxiety:

  1. Situational anxiety: reflects how anxious a person is at a specific moment or in a specific situation. It is a temporary feeling of anxiety that arises in a specific situation, which may vary depending on the circumstances.
  2. Trait anxiety: measures a person's general tendency to experience anxiety. This metric helps to understand how prone you are to anxious experiences overall.

One of the most important outcomes of the Spielberger-Hanin test is a clearer understanding of your anxiety levels. It can help you identify patterns in your response to stress both in the moment and in the long term.
If you are already working on managing anxiety, this test can help monitor your progress. Over time, you can compare your results to see if anxiety levels are decreasing due to therapy, medication, or other self-help strategies.

The test is useful both for personal self-analysis and for use by psychologists and doctors in diagnosing and treating anxiety disorders.

Please rate each statement as honestly and objectively as possible according to your feelings. Use the following scale to respond to statements:

  1. strongly disagree
  2. somewhat disagree
  3. somewhat agree
  4. strongly agree
