Devil May Cry is an animated series based on the popular video game franchise from the Japanese company Capcom. The show was released on Netflix in collaboration with Studio Mir, known for the successful adaptation of Castlevania. At the center of the story is Dante — a charismatic half-demon, half-human who runs the demon-hunting agency Devil May Cry. Armed with his iconic pistols and sword, Dante battles the forces of Hell attempting to invade the human world, aided by a mysterious government organization called DARKCOM. The plot draws inspiration from the game Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening.
The first season consists of 8 episodes and features high-quality animation that faithfully captures the spirit and aesthetic of the original games. The story explores Dante's origins and his complex relationship with his twin brother Vergil, while also adding new layers to the franchise’s rich mythology. This is the second animated adaptation of the series — the first was a 12-episode anime produced by the Japanese studio Madhouse in 2007.
