Personality types of 'Dexter' characters

Dexter is an American crime drama with dark humor that aired on Showtime from 2006 to 2013. The main character is Dexter Morgan, a blood spatter analyst with the Miami Police Department living a double life. By day he helps solve murders; by night he becomes a killer himself — though he only targets criminals who managed to slip through the cracks of the justice system. He follows a strict set of rules called the "Code," instilled in him by his adoptive father.

The franchise didn't die with the final credits. In 2021, the miniseries "Dexter: New Blood" came out, picking up the story ten years after the original ended. In December 2024, the prequel "Dexter: Original Sin" launched, taking viewers back to young Dexter's early days in 1990s Miami — where it all began. In the summer of 2025, "Dexter: Resurrection" arrived, with Michael C. Hall stepping back into the role he's long been inseparable from, this time set against the backdrop of New York City. The second season of "Resurrection" is officially scheduled for October 2026 — right on time for the franchise's twentieth anniversary.
